Bottom half guard. It is the one position that no matter how I have approached it, nothing ever sticks. I've made several attempts over the last 9 or 10 years and it is like in one ear and then out of the other.

Have a good bottom half? I'm all ears.

Hey everyone, time for the Weekly Question.

What's the one thing that you struggle with no matter how hard you try?

Let's have a good discussion. Maybe your strength is someone else's weakness and we have a chance to really work together and help each other.

Check the comments for mine!

Want to advance your spider guard game? Well advanced gi this week is the spot for you!

We will start our dive into combing the lasso hook with spider guard for a slightly more modern approach.

Let's drill the transition and get get comfortable with some attacks 🕷️

John Zapala it is very versatile with so much you can do. I think with so many wrestlers crossing over now, the popularity is faded a bit since they typically do not like being on their back. If like me you never wrestled, it's just fine.

I think anything closed guard. I used to get a lot of very big partners when I started so this just became a good offensive and defensive position to avoid being smashed.

If you haven’t made an advanced gi during our spider guard block this is the week for you!

We are go to do a review of some of the techniques we’ve been working on. Catch yourself up before next week when we start some spider guard variations.

I agree 100% with Gary Pond. Also because I'm not sure if other things in life would have gotten in the way. I think while I would have love to have started sooner, I did at the right time in life.

Gi advanced will actually be taking a 2nd look at some spider guard passes. How do we tie these to attacks? Good question!

We will learn from the attacks of the previous week to see where there are holes, points of connection and a different way to break those spider grips.

We've been building a system from the bottom using the common spider/scissor sweep, lets learn how to attack that sweep this week and score a pass 🕷️
