I always look at the defense when I want to learn a new move. It helps me learn what to watch for as I learn the move. I think you're right, you'd have some great attacks after a year of defending!

Thomas Rozdzynski what are you picking?

I think I'd pick arm bars. I probably spent 2-3 months very early on as a white belt getting caught in these all the time (especially by 1 person). I'd always leave an arm dangling in closed guard.I learned a lot during those 3 months especially about awareness of where my hands and arms were placed. Eventually I stopped getting arm barred at will. I think it would be interesting to revisit it 10 years later with a new experience set and see what I could learn.  

Could always see if Craig Jones is around too! Could be a fun time.

This week advanced gi will continue to build our 50/50 leg lock attacks. We will be focusing on the aoki lock and trouble shooting a bit from last week too. Miss the last few weeks? This is the perfect spot to jump in!

I definitely can see why you think a blue belt vs a black belt made the difference.A blue belt is closer to where you are currently. Their memory of the experiences you are going through is fresher too. I think it helps make them more relatable too.It's great how many people have been brought to jiu jitsu by podcasts. Maybe we should start a poll?

Bekah Bradshaw I still like to think if I started earlier I might not have stuck it out, so I'm glad I started when I did.

I feel like it hooked me right away, despite what some family members might tell you. I just remember being there my first day looking around at everyone doing the technique, it was an arm bar, and they made it look so easy. I kept saying to myself, why can't I do something that looks so easy? Never mind the fact I was probably watching the people who had been doing it for years. 

I had to become the person that made the complex seem simple.
