For me it is trust and understanding.

Trust because we all know the moves could injure us if we don't tap. So we need to know that our partner doesn't want to hurt us and will stop/slow down even if we aren't tapping. Sometimes we don't know the move so having trust in your partner who does, can keep you from getting injured.Β

Understanding is huge too. Sometimes we just want to work on something even though our partner really just wants to spar. Sometimes we are slightly injured or maybe we are preparing for a special event. When our partner is understanding they will work with you because they know at some point they will be on the other side and need the same from us.Β

Bonus for creative/curious partners. Sometimes this is the best way to find a new favorite move!

This week's Gi Advanced will continue building off the leg lock momentum from last week and Saturday's seminar.Β

Show up Wednesday night and see what's in store for those 50/50 leg locks!

You do love the trash talking!

It has changed at different times, but the one constant is how some techniques look so easy until you try them. The challenge of making something that seems so simple and isn't keeps me coming back.

With Chris Wojick coming this weekend we will take a look at a few foot locks inspired by him.

We will have ankle locks, heel hooks, aoki locks and a few others over the course of the next 2 weeks.Β

Come get and really hammer out the fundamentals of these locks so you can soak up all of his details!

Gi advanced will be interesting this week. Our focus will be making a lot of connections.Β

Anyone who knows me knows I love wristlocks especially for their ability to make people move. We will be looking at one of those and how it creates an armbar.Β

After that we are looking at another heel hook from our entry from last week.Β

If that wasn’t enough we will be building on the sweep from last week and adding in a pass.Β

Don’t miss it!

Gi advanced will transition into 50-50 this week. This is a perfect segway after covering leg locks for the last 6 weeks as often times people beginning to play with leg locks will get stuck in this position.

Join us as we spend the next few weeks looking at sweeps, arm bars, and foot locks!Β

Staying calm, once you figure that out, everything else will come.Β

We will be wrapping up our ashi leg/ankle lock flow this week.

We will combing all of the techniques we've covered for the last 5 weeks to see how they all tie together to answer the most common ways to defend an ankle lock.

After these last 5 weeks a basic system will have been built that be applied to other positions and open the mind to exploration.Β
