Big week ahead!Advanced gi/gi study moves to Tuesday at 8PM this week! We've spent ALOT of time focus on leg locks and one of my favorite positions to start learning from is single leg X (also know as Ashi or Ashi Garami) and now we need to pass it. We'll take a quick look at single leg X and then dive right into a few passes. But wait there's more!Friday night I'll be covering for John for advance no gi or no gi study. He's been focusing on all things kimura and you'll get my take, most on defense and the strategies I use when people are trying to kimura me.Β

Well I definitely do not highlight those points!First, I always offer to go with someone, even if at another gym, if my schedule allows. I think that makes it more comfortable. Second, I focus on all of the fun and if you know the person you can highlight the strengths of jiu jitsu for them. Maybe they likeΒ  puzzles or they prefer a physical challenge, but if you really know the person, highlight those parts.Lastly, I always mention all of the great people you will meet. That's one of the best parts.

As a coach and parent I thought it was great on Saturday. It's a technique I personally love and saw many of the little kids grasping it. I think it was laying a great foundation and gave them a little challenge!

I forgot about "ROLL Jiu Jitsu SoCal"

Advanced gi will continue our focus on guard passing. Getting stuck in closed guard is no fun. Let's find out how to escape. Plus... if you are doing Tap Cancer Out, guard passing is a great way to pick up some points!

It quiets the mind for sure! You can't think about the days events when someone is on your back trying to choke you. Well I guess you can, but then you are getting choked out.Β

What guard do you struggle the most with passing?

This block we will focus on guard passing, opening the guard, and maybe some sweeps will even pop up.Let's make this a very interactive next 8 weeks!
