Staying calm, once you figure that out, everything else will come.

We will be wrapping up our ashi leg/ankle lock flow this week.

We will combing all of the techniques we've covered for the last 5 weeks to see how they all tie together to answer the most common ways to defend an ankle lock.

After these last 5 weeks a basic system will have been built that be applied to other positions and open the mind to exploration.

I think white over all but purple was my hardest as that’s when COVID hit and there was a long break in there.

This we were are going to review the heel hooks from last week and add in a toe hold. By the end of Wednesday night we will have a night system that will have an answer for the most popular defenses when attacking the ankle.

Next week we wrap it up before moving on.

This will be a fun week. While many consider heel hooks in the gi as something we shouldn't do, it's important to know.

With so many people wanting to cross train or having visitors come through, may not know the rules others play by, so awareness will help keep you safe.

Plus the entire sequence we have been drilling applies to no gi where you can use these heel hooks. Let's build some muscle memory this week and look at a slightly different way to finish the heel hook!

Advanced gi takes a look at the Aoki lock which has quickly become one of my favorites in the last year. We'll quickly review the previous weeks with the sole purpose of getting more reps as we build our flow.

This week we see how the Aoki lock can be used to defeat one of the most common defenses to the ankle lock and is even an option to a 2nd defense if you aren't quite ready to bail on the attack just yet.

These next 2 weeks are going to be fun!

I became a fan of full or closed guard very early on. We would get paired up for drilling and I must have looked much heavier than I was since I tended to get the larger partners.Keeping my partner in full guard became a way to stay safe from getting smashed and as I continued led down a road of finding a lot of attacks and sweeps.

Dealing with a flexible partner who has longer legs. They often like to you that leg to trap an arm while still keeping 1 leg around you.

While it may take away 1 hook they then have 2 hands to attack an arm or the neck.
