Lets put the fun in fundamentals this week!

Offensively, the cross collar choke—-a dominant position with a great finish.

Defensively-Trap, bridge and roll. Reversing a bad situation so we end up in a better spot.

Great question.

I think instead of trying to drink from the firehose I’d try and master basic fundamentals, leverage, and escapes.

Once those are set I feel a lot of offense comes naturally.

Also, wish I would have started earlier just like everyone says. 😉

I’ve been taking a step back and trying to see my opponent’s deficiencies and attack those. I want to pretend to attack one thing when I’m hoping they react a certain way so I can attack something else.

I’m trying to set up attacks

We’re back at the top of the fundamental’s curriculum, closed guard.

4 out of 6 techniques are part of the the white belt must know.

Let’s have some fun, #CU@6AM!

My game has definitely changed quite a bit. When I started I was told to stick to half guard since I wasn’t an ‘older guy’.  I guess being hard headed I wanted to work with different guards/offenses to be a rounded player. This would sometimes lead me to try and force these positions while sparring. Not always the most efficient thing to do.

Now my game consisted of looking for the deficiencies of my opponent and working from there, or baiting them into something.

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. 🤷🏻‍♂️😬

We’re starting the block on side control in fundamentals. Show up at 6 am and get your body moving for the day. CU@6AM!

Clamps. Clamping with the knees while on my side.

I’ve been getting my opponent off to one side of me and breaking their posture. I know there are reverse arm locks, omoplatas, and wrist locks from there. I would like to know what else!

Thinking outside the box. I know, cliché.

I’ve always been a head on kind of person and Jiu Jitsu has taught me that going head on isn’t always the correct answer. Sometimes there’s an alternate route that gets us to the same ending.

Getting to the back can be difficult

This week’s fundamental classes have 3 options to get you there.

The cool word is perseverance.

The not-so-cool phrase is embrace the suck.

Some days you’re the hammer, some days you’re the nail, and some days you’re the board with the nail in it.

There is definitely a cycle of I know what I’m doing, I don’t know what I’m doing, I shouldn’t even be attempting this.

The hard times is where it’s nice to have a great community to bounce ideas off of and help get through the hard times.
