If someone is serious about joining I’ll offer to go with them to their first class. If they say they want to lose some weight before starting I quote (I believe) Rener Gracie “You don’t lose weight and then join, you join and then lose weight”

Born a champion is a pretty good BJJ movie. 

I don’t eat an hour before I’m going to train. Definitely try to be hydrated coming in. 

On the days that I teach the 6am class I come in fasted. I wake up and drink a large glass of water with my morning supplements. After class I have my first cup of coffee……and it’s glorious. 

Starting back up in the guard! Being offensive from the back is one of the great things about BJJ. 

4 white belt must know techniques are in the curriculum this week as well.

Move me, not them. 

I was muscling through a lot of techniques or getting overpowered when someone was stronger than me. Once I put this into action I was able to save energy my movement got a lot better. 

Unfortunately, it's part of life. Not everyone starts with the intent to get their black belt. Maybe they just want to get to blue belt, maybe they just want to say they tried it, a lot of times life just gets in the way.... And we're there waiting for them on the mats. 

Spicing things up with some Judo this week! 

Osoto Gari and hook defense....One is the sport version and one is for self defense.

Spending time with the wife and kids is definitely a priority. I’m definitely a bit of a coffee nut so I do enjoy the new coffee shops popping up in the area. 

I need to get back into it as I’ve been slacking but archery is another hobby I enjoy. 

I’d like to go back to Australia. I’m a fan of Chris bones so I’d like to visit his gym. Also, during COVID I became Facebook friends with a black belt there named Dan Ward. Id love to meet up with him and visit his academy.
