Wow, this is huge! We can learn from anyone, but what a person with a similar body type can offer is perspective that others don’t see. It’s not just about size or body type; it’s also about how we process information. For example, a larger person will never experience being stuck at the bottom the same way as a smaller individual. A taller person will see a take-down very differently than a shorter individual. There’s more… an engineering mind will process information differently than a creative person.

We all have strengths and weaknesses, and understanding what they are is key to our success. Learning or modeling someone with a similar build and mind could not only speed up the learning process but also make it more enjoyable.

Great week in NoGi classes. Tripod Pass is not the easiest yet all kids did great. Understanding mechanics and staying focused on the plan allowed us to make this easy to learn.

Soooo many are coming to my mind, but I will mention two, that really made an impact on me.

First, "never be flat on your back" I don't remember where I got it from, but it was impeded into my mind early on and stuck with me to this day.

Second, "they can't smash you if you are on top", this one I credit to Master Carlson Gracie Sr.

I love Drop Seoi Nage, not only the set up allows me to be in full control, but also the element of surprise is quite large, which raises the success rate. Dropping in between my partners knees, allow gravity to pull up forward, and I guess my part of no choice but simply fall to the ground.

What's the video for details or if you want to see Gary Pond without a beard
