Double leg takedown flowing right into two nice submissions. It’s going to be a fun week!

Question of the week.

What are you doing off the mat that you think will help you with your training on the mat? Are you strength training, watching instructional videos, watching sparring film, managing your nutrition, or something else?

Personally I’m a huge advocate of strength training. If you look at any of the big time tournaments, all the top practitioners look like superheroes. I feel that this can’t be ignored. I heard a quote somewhere that said “Jiu Jitsu is for the little guy… but then the big guys started learning Jiu Jitsu too”.

On Tuesday we’ll be working on two nice sweeps from guard. The scissor sweep and tripod are both options you’re going to want to have in your trick! Come check it out to make sure you know all of the details!

On Tuesday we have a couple of nice side control escapes as well as a self defense technique from a striking situation.  Side control can be one of the most annoying positions to be in so finding your go to escape is essential to improve your game!

This week we have a couple of side control escape variations. Plus we’ll look at an effective way to transition from side control to top control maintaining control throughout the whole process!

One of my favorite weeks, the Kimura! Use it as a submission or a sweep! It’s going to be a good week

Something that I struggled with for a while was not rushing to finish a submission. Once I got in an advantageous position, I always felt the need to jump to the finish. It took me a while to slow down and make the submission inevitable, not something that you achieved by luck or surprise!

This week in All Levels we will be looking at the triangle choke from guard. A very awesome and powerful way to submit your partner. Make sure to show up and check it out!

You have to have a go to escape when stuck in bottom mount. No better one to learn than the trap bridge and roll. Make sure to come check it out this week!

Do you have a favorite Jiu Jitsu practitioner to watch? Is there a Jiu Jitsu practitioner’s game that you try to emulate? Are they the same or are they different?

For me, I really enjoy watching the Ruotolo brothers compete. They are both very aggressive and exciting. They push the pace and are always looking for a submission. Like a pair of Vipers.

But the game I try to mimic more would be Gordon Ryan. A much slower and methodical approach to submission hunting. Trying to eliminate all variability while not assuming much risk. The excitement is in the details, not necessarily in the explosive nature.
