Balance... I used to find myself as very uncoordinated and not balanced.  It took me to a long time to figure out how to use gravity to my advantage. Once I was able to wrap my head around it, it took a lot of practice, a lot of trim, error, and to be honest a lot of failures, to really become efficient at it... I'm still working on it.

This is a phenomenal question, for me it was particularly solving problems and reacting and stressful situations. We all have been there, challenges arise, stress increases, anxiety kicks in, and we are unable to make logical decisions or troubleshoot the situation to remove ourselves and make things easier. Most definitely Jiu Jitsu has taught me to evaluate every situation, take a step back and try to make the best choices based on the surroundings and options available.

If I look at current or active / competitors I would have to say Adam Wardzinski. He used to be underestimated for many years. He personal story is very inspiring and motivating. Yes, I'm a little biased 🇵🇱

However, overall, I love watching Marcelo Garcia and Roger Gracie. Some of the best of the best in business.

Great question John!

Often times open mats are being viewed as overwhelming and sometimes it's very difficult to step in for very first time. Having a plan to focus on a small area, gives us a great start to anchor on. Similar to what John said above, selecting a starting position with very specific objective could not only provide the path, but also be very stimulating. Not every open training session should be physically intensive. Sparring is fun, but also it could be used as an educational tool to make our Jiu Jitsu better.
